Johannesburg in South Africa will become the second long-haul destination for Singapore Airlines’ new generation Airbus A350-900.
fleet, with effect from June 27, 2017.
Starting June 27, the A350 will be initially deployed on flights serving the Singapore-Johannesburg route on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The A350 frequency will progressively increase to cover all seven weekly Johannesburg flights, including four weekly flights which continue on to Cape Town.
Like its competition the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the Airbus A350 XWB (eXtra Wide Body) features advanced technology and superior operating efficiency, along with one of the lowest noise profiles of any jetliner in service. Passengers experience improvements in higher ceilings, larger windows, an extra wide body, lower altitude cabin pressure, and lighting designed to reduce jetlag.

Singapore Airlines A350s currently offer 253 seats in three classes, seating 42 customers in business, 24 in premium economy, and 187 in economy class.

The airline currently operates its two A350-900s on the Singapore Amsterdam route. After South Africa, the island nation’s carrier will commence A350 a new service to Düsseldorf in Germany, from July.
Singapore Airlines currently has two A350-900s in service and another 65 on firm order.
Editor's note: Ethiopian Airlines is the first African carrier to take delivery of the Airbus A350 which has since entered into service and has been deployed on several routes. Singapore Airlines deployment of the A350 to Johannesburg (JHB) and Cape Town (CPT) highlights the strategic importance of these routes to its network.
